From the Pastor – September/October 2019
Happy Fall y’all! Forgive me for being so late into the season and 2 months past due on a blog, but life at OBC has been busy and exciting! We have had several baptisms in September, 3 to be exact as well as new memberships! Whoo! Oh, and did we have a Revival! I thank the Lord each and every day for Pastor Lee Faler and Brother Tom Edwards, their ministries, their ministry to us in Revival services, and their friendship I have with them. These men are exceptional and a blessing to all they minister to. Before I move away from talking about Revival services, I need to thank once again all that helped make our Revival week amazing! To Sylvia Harrington and those who helped in her work preparing NoonDay Meals each day as well as our Wednesday night meal. For the Revival Team and Church Staff meals, thank you to Joann and Gerald Lively for the wonderful Sunday lunch at the Country Club, to the Lydia Sunday School Class for their preparation of Sunday Night’s meal, To Mr. Ken and Mrs. Mary Jenkins for their preparation in Monday Night’s Meal (AMAZING), and to all of the Chow Family for their preparation in Tuesday night’s meal (SUPREME) and a subtle surprise birthday celebration. Without you, NONE of this could have happened and you are greatly appreciated for your service by your Pastor. Also, thank you Church for your generosity in the Love Offering to care for the Revival Team. I am humbled at your willingness and faith in the work of the Lord.
October is already a promising month as we have called our new Youth Minister, Brock McKnight. Brock is married to Beverly Blake McKnight. She is a P.E. Coach at M.S. Palmer in Marks. Brock is the Head Baseball Coach at Lee Academy and has been with us in an Interim role since February of this year. On October 6th, OBC unanimously called Brock to be our Bi-Vocational Youth Minister. I am excited to have him on staff and cannot wait to see what the Lord does in his ministry here at Oakhurst. Also, we have already had five professions of faith and each one will be baptized into membership at OBC! We will also be having our annual Fall Festival at the Lively Farm and we need all the help we can get to make this thing happen! This is gonna sound a little weird, but we need your trunks for treats. HA! Seriously, we need your help putting on our trunk or treat at the Fall Festival, eight to be exact. So please, volunteer your car’s trunk and be creative in decoration and bring your favorite candies to share with the kiddos. Remember, 5-8pm at the Lively Farm on October 26th. Bring the whole family. It won’t be the last straw, I promise. HAY! That reminds me, there will be a hayride as well, along with food! Clear your Saturday and bring the kids.
Please be in prayer for the Mississippi Baptist Convention and for myself as well as I write a resolution to bring to the floor during the MBC’s business session. All year the Lord has been burdening me to write a resolution and He has now made it clear the subject of that resolution. I’ll be sharing in the next week at Church what will be the resolution’s subject. Also, please be in prayer for all of our sick. We have several sick and surgeries performed. Last thing: thank you, Church, for loving on your Pastor and family. Please know you are loved and prayed for each and every day.

From the Pastor – July/August 2019
Wow! How the summer has flown by! It seemed like yesterday I was headed to the beach with my family for our week of vacation. Now, were only two and a half weeks away from school starting back. I know, I know it’s just a terrible thing to think about. Especially for the kids. Having to go back to school to learn and grow. Of course, I’m like the rest of the parents, Hallelujah! Praise the Lord that school will be back in session soon! Well, I hope you received a good laugh from that. I did and I still have to go back to take classes for Seminary myself, HA!
Anyways, Yes, the summer is almost over, but the Lord’s work at Oakhurst Baptist Church is never done. There are several things to be excited about coming up in the weeks and months ahead at OBC. First of all, as we wind down the summer, we will observe the Lord’s Supper THIS Sunday morning, July 28th, in our morning worship service. Please come prepared spiritually to partake of the Lord’s Supper. Also, the Youth will be sharing about Crossings Camp and the impact the Lord made on them THIS Sunday Night. Excited for that! Next, Friendship Baptist Church from Lyman, SC will be with us for Wednesday Night Worship on July 31st at 6pm in the Sanctuary. This will be a great time for us to worship together as a Church Family mid-week, so please come and be prepared to give a love offering as well. We will kickoff August with a B for Baptism on August 4th as we baptize Jackson Lively and praise the Lord for His new found faith in Jesus! Then on Saturday, August 17th, the Oakhurst Kids Ministry will be headed to the Memphis Zoo! There will be a sign-up sheet in the front foyer of the Sanctuary starting this Sunday! It will be a fun day for the kids and the whole family if you so wish, so, please sign up! In the midst of all the activity going on, I ask you to continue to be in prayer for our Deacon nomination and election process. It is extremely important that the Lord raise up the men in our Church who are willing to be servant leaders for our Church and most of all, His Glory. My prayer is that any man nominated who has never been a Deacon to pray hard and earnestly about the Lord calling them to be a Deacon. I ask that you pray the same. Whoever is nominated to serve another term on our Deacon Body, I pray that they are willing to step back up to the plate ready to serve the Lord and His Church. I ask you to pray for the Deacons rotating off of our Deacon Body that they would know that the Lord has used them greatly and they would continue to have a servant’s heart. I thank those Deacons for their active service and ask you, Church, to thank them as well. Again, please be in prayer for all the things planned and our Deacons. May the Lord receive the glory He deserves from all we say and do.
Lastly, I just want to say how thankful I am to be with such a great Church Family at Oakhurst Baptist Church. You have no idea how grateful I am to you for making my family and myself feel so welcome and loved. It’s an honor to serve the Lord by serving you. I hope you have had a wonderful Summer and I pray the Lord blesses us all with a great Fall. See ya Sunday!
For His Glory,

From The Pastor – June 2019
It is a joy to be the Pastor of Oakhurst Baptist Church. My family and I are delighted to be allowed to serve the Lord at OBC. To tell you a little bit about myself and my family, I am originally from Louisville, MS where I grew up in First Baptist Church. My wife, Robin, is from Marks, MS where she grew up in West Marks Baptist Church. I came to know the Lord at age 13 and Robin came to know the Lord at age 12. We both grew up in Christian homes and found each other in college. We were married in December of 2008 and have been serving in Churches together for over 12 years. Personally, I surrendered to ministry at age 18 and June 2019 marks 13 years of ministry for me. In this time, the Lord has given us our 2 children, Kaitye Grace(8) and Whitten(4). Kaitye came to know the Lord just 2 years ago and we have seen her grow as a believer in Christ who loves the Lord with all her heart. We pray for Whitten and for his day of salvation every day.
Again, we are thrilled to be at Oakhurst. When we began praying for where the Lord desires us to be and the Church for me to Pastor, we never thought it would be OBC. However, we couldn’t be more blessed to be in Clarksdale. I believe with all my heart that the Lord is going to do great things at Oakhurst for many years to come and we want you to be a part of it. Since the inception of Oakhurst Baptist Church in 1953, our Church has had great ministry and impact in the community. We look to continue to do just that; to be the hands and feet of Jesus in Clarksdale, MS.
So, won’t you come join us this Sunday? There is no better place to be than God’s house and I would love to see you. May God bless you and we look forward to seeing you at Oakhurst Baptist Church.
For His Glory,
Mark Jackson – Pastor
